Day 10....smile, comrade!
I decided to take a walk through the hotel grounds to the shore of the Black Sea. At least it isn't really winter here. As you can see, it's actually kind of green. When I got to the promenade that runs along the water, a Russian guard in uniform said something incomprehensible to me. It should've been quite obvious to him I had no idea what he was talking about when I shrugged my shoulders and looked like an idiot. The promenade and beach beyond were locked behind an Iron gate. I took out my camera and mimed taking a picture as if to say "is this okay?" He gave me no indication whether photography was permitted. He then launched into three or four more sentences in Russian that were also incomprehensible to me. For all I knew he could've been saying either "Have a nice day. We're glad to have you in our country." Or "take one more step and I'll blow your brains out."
